(Victoria, TX) The final round of the Victoria Open at Victoria Country Club is in the books and a champion has been crowned.  The four day event was dominated by one player, but one made a push to try to make things interesting.

Cory Churchman (Forth Worth, TX) got off to a fast start in his final round with four birdies on the front nine, but he didn’t stop there.  He would continue his streak of birdies on the back nine with five straight, six in a row after a birdie on nine as well.  He would finish the round at 8-under par (63) moving him four spots up leaderboard into second at 14-under overall. 

Kyle Pritchard (Castroville, TX) began the day with a 7 shot lead and continued to dominate the course.  He was 3-under par through the front nine, where he didn’t record a single bogey all week.  Nerves started to set in as Pritchard bogeyed back-to-back holes to start the back nine.  Pritchard answered back with a birdie on 13 to extend his lead to 3-under where he would finish after another birdie and bogey to end the final round of the tournament.  “I knew it was getting close,” said Pritchard.  “I didn’t check the leaderboard, but I was nervous just sitting at 3-under in the round.”

Pritchard was teaching at a high school, but after winning the Texas State Open he decided to quit and pursue a career as a professional golfer.  After just his first start on the APT and taking home the top prize we would say he’s mad a wise choice.
